SKIN CANCER AND OTHERS: SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT.

CANCER
This is a condition in which certain body cells multiply without apparent control and destroy healthy tissue and organs.

Medically, there are over 100 different types of cancers that affects humans. The most common forms are breast, colon, stomach, skin cancers and cancer of the lung. Although, cancer does not have specific organs that it affects, as it can affect virtually all organs including organs that form blood

Cancer are grouped into 2 major groups which are; (CARCINOMA) Cancer of the epithelial tissue that forms skin and the linings of internal organs and (SARCOMA) Cancer of connecting tissue, such as cartilage and bone. Cancer of bone marrow and other blood-forming organs results in the production of cancerous white blood cells, a condition known as LEUKEMIA.

In healthy humans, new body cells are produced to enable growth and to replace cells that die through wear and tear. The new cells are formed when existing cells divide. Normally, the body cells divide at a controlled rate, producing just enough new cells to replace those that die. But cancer cells divide at an uncontrolled rate, forming a cluster of cells called a tumor.

The tumors are of two types, the cancerous tumor which spreads to other part of the body and Benign tumors which do not. Cancer spread occurs when some cancers break away from the tumor and travel through the bloodstream. These cells may lodge in other organs or tissues and cause new tumors to form. It may also spread by invading tissues that surround the tumor, once formed cancerous tumors continue to grow.

SYMPTOMS OF CANCER

CAN SA
Cancer has no symptoms in early stage, but symptoms may appear before the cancer begins to spread.

  • A sore that does not heal, this could be a warning that mouth or skin cancer is developing.
  • Unusual bleeding or discharge, Blood in urine may be a symptom of bladder or kidney cancer;
  • Blood or mucus in stools may indicate bowel cancer, any vaginal discharge or bleeding might be sign of cancer of the reproductive organs.
  • Any discharge in bowel or bladder habits, these might indicate cancer of the prostrate, colon or bladder.
  • Thickening of lump in the breast or any were in the body. Obvious change in mole, any sudden change in size, shape or color could signal cancer of the skin.
  • Persistent indigestion or difficulty in swallowing, its a warning of stomach cancer or cancer of the throat.
  • A persistent cough especially if there is spitting of blood and loss of weight may be a sign of lung cancer.
Although these symptoms are not conclusive signs of cancer, there are warnings of possible danger.

CAUSES OF CANCER

Although no medically documentation has spelled out the single cause of cancer, but studies from scientist have shown that industrial chemicals such as arsenic, asbestos, and some products of coal and oil can create hazard on workers and increase cancer chances.
Chemical carcinogens polluting air or drinking water can increase cancer risk for an entire community.
Carcinogens have also been found in some drugs and foods.
The most common chemical carcinogens are those found in tar of tobacco smoke.
Overexposure to ultraviolet rays in sunlight can cause skin cancer, especially in people with fair and sensitive skin.
Also large dose of X-rays are cancer hazards as they are radioactive substances.

TREATMENT

The three most commonly used methods to treat cancer are; Radiation, Drugs and surgery. Cancer treatment varies depending on the nature of cancer.

 RADIATION
Cancers such as skin, bladder cervix and areas of the head and neck can be treated by radiotherapy (radiation) alone. The area affected is exposed to radiation by X-ray or radioactive substances like cobalt 60. The problem with this form of treatment is that radiation kills both the cancerous and normal cells and as such care must be taken during administration not to endanger the life of the patient.

DRUGS
Anticancer drugs (chemotherapy) can also be used; they are particularly effective on conditions such as leukemia and lymphoma, this form of treatment can be used on wide range of cancers but like the radiation treatment, drugs also kill healthy cells and have side effects like High Blood Pressure or Nausea.

 SURGERY
Surgery is used to remove most tumors and also the surrounding tissue. Surgery is mostly used for cancer of the colon, lung, breast, womb and stomach. Some brain tumors are also removed by surgery. The patient may also receive Chemotherapy or Radiotherapy after the surgery.

AS ALWAYS PRAYER IS A BETTER SOLUTION WHEN ALL HOPES ARE LOST.
