FIBROID: CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS.

FIBROID
A FIBROID

Fibroid is a benign that’s noncancerous tumor that consists mainly of fibrous tissues. It forms in the muscle of the womb (i.e. the UTERUS). Fibroid are of various shapes, firm and slow-growing. The range in size some are less than an inch (2.5cm) to more than a foot (30cm) across. It is estimated that 20% of women have fibroid by the time menopause begins. It shouldn’t be seen as a chronic disorder.

DOES FIBROID HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS?

In most cases, a fibroid does not show any symptoms and it’s only discovered in a gynecological examination. If any symptoms should occur that would be heavy menstrual bleeding than normal a condition medically known as MENORRHAGIA and these bleeding is often accompanied with pain ; also if the fibroid develops close to the bladder or if it causes pressure on the bladder , urination is more frequent . A large fibroid can be felt through the abdominal wall.

CAUSES OF FIBROID

The womb of an average woman increases in size every month in response to the sex hormones secreted by the body, and then decreases at the time of menstruation. It is likely that an area of the muscles in the womb fails to shrink with the rest of the womb.

 FIBROID SIZES
Each month, the area grows slightly larger under the stimulus of the released hormones and as the bulk increases a fibroid is formed. After menopause, fibroid decreases in size as the uterus becomes smaller. CAN FIBROID CAUSE INFERTILITY? Sometimes fibroid may cause sterility, they may also be a factor in producing a miscarriage, and records show that most miscarriages that occur without any external factor are most likely caused by fibroid.

TREATMENT

It is medically advised that fibroid should only be treated if they produce symptoms.
