THE GOODS AND BADS OF CIRCUMCISION!

CIRCUMCISION

Circumcision is the surgical removal of all or part of the FORESKIN otherwise Known as PREPUCE of the penis. In infancy, it is usually carried out for social or cultural reasons. In average males, it is carried out for medical reasons.

WHAT ARE THE PROCESSES INVOLVED IN CIRCUMCISION?

They are basically 2 common method of carrying out circumcision.
  1. A specially shaped piece of plastic is applied over the end (glands) of the penis and the foreskin is stitched over it before being cut off.
  2. The foreskin is carefully cut and stitched.
An anesthetic is not used for newborn babies, but only used for a child or an adult. Care should be taken during these process as damages may occur, too much skin or not enough may be removed, or part of the glans itself. These damages may cause severe bleeding or affect the urethra.

WHAT ARE THE REASONS FOR CIRCUMCISION?

As mentioned earlier, circumcision can be carried out for social or medical reasons. The reasons for social circumcision varies from culture to culture, sometimes it is religious driven as most religions do it as an initiation into adulthood. Other cultures do it as a tradition of the family or because majority of the males in the neighborhood are circumcised.
The medical reasons include a reduction the foreskin because in some rare instances the foreskin is usually longer and the exit is usually narrow (PHIMOSIS) at birth. Or the glans inside the foreskin may become infected by bacteria or from diaper rash which often cause the foreskin to become scarred and abnormally tight.

Studies have shown that cancer of the penis is commoner in the uncircumcised and that circumcision reduces the possibility of cancer of the cervix, although it is not yet a conclusive fact.
On the other hand, ulceration of the glans is more common in those who are circumcised than those with a foreskin.
