BREATHING CHALLENGES; CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND FIRST AID ADMINISTRATION (ASTHMA).


Our focus today is Breathing.
We would discuss some common breathing challenges, their causes and possible remedy or first aid in case of occurrence.

What is Breathing?
  1. Breathing; the process of taking air into and expelling it from the lungs - Oxford dictionary.
  2. In common language it simply refers to, the taking in and sending out of air. 
  3. Breathing can also be termed respiration which is essential for any living organism to stay alive, it could also be defined as the taking in of air (oxygen) which enters the lungs and passes to the blood then enters the heart, the heart then pumps the blood to all the vital organs of the body, carbon dioxide is then expelled from the lungs.
 BELOW ARE SOME OF THE CASES OF BREATHING CHALLENGES
So many factors can hinder proper breathing, but we shall take a look at the most commons ones which includes;
1.SMOKING: smoking damages the lungs and Since the lungs performs a vital role in the breathing process, any damage caused to the lungs could lead to difficulty in breathing.
    2.CHEST INFECTION AND INJURY: any sort of chest injury or infection can hamper proper breathing since the chest enlarges and contracts during breathing.
    3.ASTHMA: It's a chronic disease of the lungs, which is caused by inflammation of the bronchi of the lungs thereby causing narrowing of the airways of the lungs.***
    4.CHOKING: It simply refers to the obstruction in the throat or lack of air.
    5.COLLAPSED OR PUNCTURED LUNGS:  a punctured lungs will pose a very big challenge to breathing, reasons being that during breathing the lungs enlarges and contracts, so if there is any hole in the lung, there would be no compression to pump the air.
    6.HEART DISEASE: any disease affecting the heart will not allow free breathing, since the heart uses the air (oxygen) inhaled in order to circulate blood round the body.
    7.FUMES INHALATION: any air that is not mainly composed of oxygen is not pure for breathing in,  fumes are any smoke like or vaporous exhalation from matter or substances, especially of an odorous or harmful nature, example tobacco.
    8.Others includes;  FEAR, PAIN OR ANXIETY.
     SIGNS OF BREATHING CHALLENGES INCLUDE;
    Coughing
    Noisy breathing
    Pale face and lips
    Rapid breathing rate
    Shortness of breath and 
    Aggressiveness    
    FIRST AID FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING BREATHING CHALLENGES
    1. Call the local emergency line
    2.  Sit patient upright and support him or her.
    3. If patient is on breathing medication, assist them with it and allow them take it by their selve
    4. loosen the clothing especially around the neck
    5. keep patient calm.

     ASTHMA: It's a chronic disease of the lungs, which is caused by inflammation of the bronchi of the lungs thereby causing narrowing of the airways of the lungs. It usually results from an allergic reaction or other forms of hypersensitivity. It predominant symptoms include; wheezing, tightening of the chest, coughing and short breath.

    Below are the some of the known causes of Asthma attack, they include;
    Perfume
    medications
    pets; animal feathers and fur.
    rapid changing temperature
    strenuous exercise
    Air pollution; dust, and smoke.

    HOW TO MANAGE AN ASTHMA PATIENT OR SITUATION
    1. Fist step is to make the person sit upright.
    2. Comfort them as they may be stressed and tensed
    3. Allow them choose the best position for themselves
    4. Encourage to relax so as to enable them conserve oxygen
    5.  Assist the person with his or her inhaler if available
    6. If symptoms persists, call for professional help.
